What is the year of our lord?

The term "Year of our Lord" (abbreviated as AD, or Anno Domini) is used to indicate the years after the birth of Jesus Christ. This dating system was developed in the 6th century by a monk named Dionysius Exiguus. It replaced the earlier Roman dating system based on the founding of Rome (which was called AUC, or Ab Urbe Condita).

The AD system is widely used throughout the world as the standard way of dating historical events, even by people who do not follow the Christian faith. However, in recent years, there has been a movement in some circles to use the term "Common Era" (CE) instead of AD, in an effort to be more inclusive of people of other faiths or no faith at all.

Despite this, the Year of our Lord system remains the most widely used dating system for historical events and records. It is a testament to the lasting impact that Jesus' life and teachings have had on the world, and the enduring influence of Christianity even in a secular age.
